Indian footballing giants, ATK Mohun Bagan have made their first foray into the summer transfer window ahead of the 2022/23 Indian Super League (ISL) season by signing Lalrinliana Hnamte from long-term rivals, East Bengal.
Hnamte who is a midfielder by trade got fans and pundits talking about him when joined the Pune City FC Under-18 side back in 2016, which saw him featuring in the 2018 I-League Under-18 tournament.
Post that he moved to the Hyderabad FC reserve side and consistent performances from him saw SC East Bengal come calling for the 2021/22 ISL season. The 18-year-old enjoyed a good debut season for the Indian footballing giants, making 17 appearances in all competitions, making 220 passes and also scoring one goal for them.
Despite being signed by Mohun Bagan, the youngster will not feature for the club in the upcoming 2022 AFC Cup group stage matches as the Mariners have already registered a 28-member squad for the continental event, with no tweaks on the cards. The Calcutta Football League or the Durand Cup might provide the perfect opportunity for Hnamte to make his debut, if the they feature in any of those meets.
The 18-year-old will have an opportunity to work under head coach, Juan Ferrando who has been brilliant for ATK Mohun Bagan ever since he was appointed midway through last season as the Spaniard is known to give youth a chance in order to develop and express their talent.
