Indian Super League (ISL) side, ATK Mohun Bagan have confirmed the signing of Asish Rai from Hyderabad FC with the defender set to play for the Mariners in the upcoming 2022/23 ISL season.
Rai came into prominence during his time at Indian Arrows between 2017 to 2019, with the defender joining the club on loan from Pune City. His performances for them saw ISL side, Hyderabad FC come calling in 2019, with the then head coach, Phil Brown heaping praise for his performances on the pitch.
While his debut season did not go as planned, the 23-year-old set the stage alight in the 2020/21 ISL season under the tutelage of Manolo Marquez. Rai was in sensational form throughout the season until he picked up a season-ending knee injury against Kerala Blasters FC on 16 February 2021.
The defender made 48 appearances in total for Hyderabad FC, improving by leaps and bounds under Marquez and it comes as a surprise that the club management decided to sell him when ATK Mohun Bagan came calling.
In addition to his club performances, Rai has also played for India's Under-20 and Under-23 sides and will soon look to make the step up and get selected for the men's national team senior squad.
