Isco Set to Miss Real Madrid's Game Against Valencia Due to Hamstring Injury

Isco will miss Real Madrid's game against Valencia on Thursday after picking up a hamstring injury.

The midfielder has not featured for Los Blancos since their Clásico win over Barcelona back in March and it may be some time before he returns to the starting XI.

Real announced the news of Isco's injury on their website but did not put a date of his recovery.

"Following the tests carried out today on our player Isco Alarcón by Real Madrid's medical department, he has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury to his right thigh," a statement read.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."

The 28-year-old was named in the 23-man squad for the Valencia game but has now been withdrawn. He also did not feature during his side's La Liga return against Eibar last weekend. Zinedine Zidane's side breezed to a 3-1 home victory with Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo all getting on the scoresheet.

The hamstring problem is the latest in a string of niggling injuries that have limited the Spaniard's involvement during the current campaign. Isco has made 23 appearances in all competitions with a considerable proportion of those coming from the bench.

He's also struggled for form, managing just three goals and not registering a single assist. He was linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in January with Chelsea mentioned as a potential destination, though Zidane later spoke of his admiration of the player in an interview.

His current deal expires in 2022, along with several other key players meaning that year could mark a significant changing of the guard at Real.

For now though, Zidane will be focussed on chasing down league leaders Barcelona. Quique Setien's side are currently four points clear of their bitter rivals, though Real have a game in hand.
