Inter Miami signed winger Emerson Rodriguez from Colombian top-flight team Millonarios Fútbol Club, with a contract through the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer season and an option for 2026.

The 21-year-old, who will occupy an international roster slot, joins the club pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.

“Emerson is an exciting, dynamic young talent that we are excited to welcome to Inter Miami. His quality reinforces our team’s attack to help us achieve our goals this upcoming season,” said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.

The player joins the South Florida side as part of the league’s Under-22 Initiative, a plan that allows MLS teams to sign up to three young players under the age of 22 to lucrative contracts at a reduced budget charge.

The initiative works to 'foster the growth of young players and decrease roadblocks for clubs interested in signing them'.

Rodriguez joins MLS after spending the entirety of his career in his native Colombia, working himself up through Millonarios Fútbol Club’s youth ranks before making his debut for the first team in 2020. He recorded eight goals and eight assists in 63 appearances across all competitions before signing for Inter Miami.

Prior to becoming a first team player for Millionarios, the winger spent time on loan with second-tier side Valledupar Fútbol Club, making eight appearances in 2019.

The player’s arrival forms part of Inter Miami’s plans to revamp the squad after head coach Phil Neville admitted they were 'never a team' in 2021.

The team is set to kick off their 2022 MLS campaign on February 26 when hosting the Chicago Fire at DRV PNK Stadium.
