Inter Miami player George Acosta is set to miss six to eight weeks after undergoing successful knee surgery to clean out debris in his meniscus.
The procedure comes after his original knee injury forced Acosta to a year-long recovery period in 2020. The midfielder finally returned to the field in 2021, going on to star for Fort Lauderdale before returning to training with Inter Miami.
Due to his ongoing lesion, the player has only made one official appearance for the South Florida team.
Acosta first joined the South Florida side in 2019, signing as the team’s fifth ever player and first Miami native. Prior to kicking off the 2022 campaign, the Major League Soccer side extended Acosta to a contract running through the end of the season with an option for 2023.
The midfielder joins the plethora of Inter Miami players on the sidelines as Phil Neville’s side suffers an injury crisis. Defenders Brek Shea and Kieran Gibbs remain out on a week to week basis, while Ian Fray and Ryan Shawcross were officially ruled out of the season with individual injuries.
Designated Player and star forward Gonzalo Higuain is also out with a reported knee injury that forced him to miss Miami’s match vs. the New England Revolution.
