Inter have launched their new Nike third kit for the 2020/21 season, which will be worn for the Champions League and evokes strong memories of the club’s triumphant UEFA Cup campaign spearheaded by Ronaldo - O Fenômeno - in 1997/98.
The grey and black hoops have become an iconic Inter look because of that season and the Brazilian’s incredible impact following his then-world record arrival in Milan.
Inter are even still sponsored by long-term partner Pirelli, making the throwbacks stronger still.
The Nike swoosh and Pirelli branding is coloured yellow, while the blue trim on the neck and sleeve cuffs adds a modern twist to a cult classic.
The jersey is paired with black shorts and black socks to complete the full look.
Inter’s new home shirt for 2020/21 was released at the end of June and pays tribute to Milanese graphic designers of the 1980s through its wavy zig-zag look.
The white away shirt similarly tapped into Milan’s post-modernist movement, which changed the face of art and design over 30 years ago. With a blue and black grid pattern, it is considered a fresh update on the club’s traditional away strip.
Inter will have a delayed start to their 2020/21 Serie A campaign as a result of competing in the Europa League final in the latter half of August. Antonio Conte’s team will begin their season on Saturday 26 September at home to Fiorentina, a week after the rest of the league starts.
The Champions League group stage will begin just under a month later on 20/21 October. The draw for the group stage will be by UEFA on Thursday 1 October in Athens. Inter are back in the elite competition for the third consecutive season but have not reached the knockouts since 2011/12.
