Inter Confirm Positive Coronavirus Test for Ashley Young

Inter have confirmed that wing-back Ashley Young has tested positive for COVID-19 in the club's latest batch of results.

The 35-year-old will now quarantine for 14 days following the news, acting as a blow to player and club having played in some capacity in all three of Inter's Serie A matches this season.

A statement on the club's official website read: "FC Internazionale Milano announces that Ashley Young tested positive for Covid-19 following the test carried out yesterday in Appiano Gentile.

"The English footballer is already in quarantine at his home."

Young has provided one assist in his three Serie A matches this season, with Antonio Conte's side securing seven points to leave them in fourth place heading into matchday four.

It's been a frantic start to the season for I Nerazzurri, who started off with a 4-3 win over Fiorentina on home soil. A barmy encounter saw the hosts score four second half goals, two of which arrived in the final three minutes. A thumping 5-2 victory over Benevento followed, with their most recent clash being a 1-1 draw with Lazio.

However, crucial matches await for Inter in their next two fixtures - ones they will now need to face without Young in their ranks. The Derby della Madonnina awaits them next against high flying rivals AC Milan, before Borussia Mönchengladbach are welcomed to San Siro in the first game of the Champions League group stages.

Young's quarantine period means he won't be available for selection in either game.

The former Manchester United captain has made 28 appearances for Inter since his January arrival, scoring four goals and registering six assists. Given the news, Conte may persist with Ivan Perisic at left wing-back - an unfamiliar role that he has already played in twice this season.
