AC Milan triumphed in an entertaining Derby della Madonnina, beating rivals Inter 2-1 at San Siro on a pulsating evening of football.

Stefano Pioli's men opened the scoring on 13 minutes, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted the rebound to his own missed penalty, after he had been brought down in the box by Aleksandar Kolarov. The big Swede doubled the scoreline three minutes later, tapping home an inch-perfect cross at the far post to send the visitors into dreamland.

Inter came back into the game on the half-hour mark through Romelu Lukaku, who slotted home an Ivan Perisic cross at the far post. I Nerazzurri pushed to level the scores in the second half, with Achraf Hakimi squandering a brilliant chance with a wayward header.

Antonio Conte's men battled hard for an equaliser, but Milan stood firm to claim a crucial three points in a hard-fought derby.

Let's take a look at the player ratings from a dramatic Milan derby on Saturday evening.

INTER

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Samir Handanovic (GK) - 7/10 - Gotta feel for a keeper who saves a penalty but concedes the rebound. Nothing he could do for either goal.

Achraf Hakimi (RWB) - 6/10 - Great going forward, but punished by Milan's blistering counter-attacks. Lacked a final ball at times, when the right pass would have provided a certain goal.

Danilo D'Ambrosio (CB) - 5/10 - Had to buy a ticket to get back into the stadium after Leao had finished with him. Looked a tortured figure on the right of the three central defenders.

Stefan de Vrij (CB) - 6/10 - The only actual centre-back in a five-man defence. Appeared to be a man carrying the weight of an entire backline on his shoulders.

Aleksandar Kolarov (CB) - 4/10 - A nightmare, nightmare evening. Gave away the penalty early on, then lost his marker for the second. Outpaced, outplayed, out of touch.

Ivan Perisic (LWB) - 6/10 - Not a left wing-back - much like his fellow wide players are not centre-backs. It showed. Supplied Inter's first goal with a classic run and cross from wide. That's where he should always be.

2. Midfielders

Marcelo Brozovic (CM) - 5/10 - Not up to his usual high standards. Turned in humbling style in the buildup to the first goal, and looked off the pace throughout. Substituted.

Arturo VIdal (CM) - 6/10 - Did his usual scary stuff around the pitch. Broke up Milan's attacks and showed why he's the interception king. Booked. Shock.

Nicolo Barella (CM) - 6/10 - Suffered a nasty blow to the knee in the first half, but didn't give up. Offered endless energy to get Inter up the pitch, in a classic box-to-box display.

3. Forwards

Lautaro Martinez (ST) - 7/10 - Drove Inter forward with powerful running, but Milan were quick to cut him down at the first sign of danger. Fired up, fighting and scrapping for every ball. Brilliant link up and support play.

Romelu Lukaku (ST) - 7/10 - Rommy on the spot on the half-hour mark. He doesn't miss from there. Did miss a good chance to equalise with his head on the stroke of half-time, though. Could have pulled level on two or three occasions.

4. Substitutes

Christian Eriksen (CM) - 7/10

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Gianluigi Donnarumma (GK) - 7/10 - Left exposed for Inter's goal. Remained composed as I Nerazzurri flew forward in the second half. An imposing figure between the sticks. Lucky to avoid conceding a penalty.

Davide Calabria (RB) - 7/10 -
Had Perisic's number (other than when he was outnumbered on the flank for Inter's first-half strike). Probably relieved Lukaku opted to hug the other touchline during the game.

Alessio Romagnoli (CB) - 8/10 -
The stronger of the two centre-backs. Got stuck in and attempted to blunt Martinez's edge with his experience and guile. Headed everything.

Simon Kjaer (CB) - 7/10 -
Left his mark on Martinez early on with a heavy challenge. Picked up a yellow card. Great header off the line to keep his side ahead in the first half. Put in some vital second-half blocks.

Theo Hernandez (LB) - 7/10 -
Couldn't keep Lukaku at bay at the far post. Did his usual trick of flying forward and providing Leao with a viable outlet. Tightened up in the second half, although struggled with the skills of Hakimi.

6. Midfielders

Franck Kessie (CM) - 7/10 - Tidy on the ball, and offered plenty of recovery runs to muck in on the defensive. Booked for a professional foul in the first half. A dogged display.

Ismael Bennacer (CM) - 8/10 - So, so good at turning over possession when Inter were on the cusp of breaking with intent. Provided plenty of vertical balls to push his side forward. Put in a great interception to deny Inter an equaliser in the second half. Here, there, everywhere.

Hakan Calhanoglu (CAM) - 8/10 - Supplied the forwards as quickly and efficiently as possible. Kept the game moving at a nice pace in the final third. Becoming a real asset in this side.

7. Forwards

Alexis Saelemaekers (RW) - 7/10 - Kicked off the counter attack for the second goal with a smart swivel. Always cutting in and dragging his marker around the pitch. A tidy, exciting little player.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (ST) - 9/10 - Won and missed the penalty, but converted the rebound. On hand to tap home the second with classic instinct. Gave Milan so, so much off the ball. Just an elite striker.

Rafael Leao (LW) - 8/10 - What a bloody cross! Broke D'Ambrosio's ankles before whipping in the ball for Zlatan to tap home. Thundered up and down the left flank, offering plenty of trickery and posing a lot of problems.

8. Substitutes

Rade Krunic (CM) - 6/10

Samu Castillejo (RW) - 7/10

Sandro Tonali (CM) - N/A
