Tottenham captain and first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was subbed off by interim coach Cristian Stellini after a horrific first-half performance against Newcastle United.

The French World Cup winner conceded five goals from just six shots on target in the opening 45, with a brace from Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy, and a goal from Joelinton, proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Sky Sports have reported that the decision to sub Lloris off at half-time was due to an injury concern - something that has not been confirmed by the club itself.

Lloris has endured an injury-hit 2023, missing nine games between February 6 and March 22 due to a knee injury.

In his stead during that period, veteran former Celtic and Southampton shot-stopper Fraser Forster impressed, even earning himself an England call-up for the most recent international break after Nick Pope pulled out of the squad due to injury.

Forster came on for the second half at St. James' Park, hoping to keep the Magpies at bay in a way that Lloris, and Tottenham in general, failed to do in the first half of the game.
