Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has said that head coach Antonio Conte can help the club move forward and challenge for trophies because of the 'winning culture in his DNA'.

Conte joined Spurs after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo at the start of November, and the team are unbeaten in the Premier League under the Italian's guidance.

However, Tottenham have not played a match in the last two weeks. Their domestic clash with Brighton and Europa Conference League meeting with Rennes were postponed because of a Covid-19 outbreak at Spurs, while Thursday's trip to Leicester was called off because of the Foxes own string of positive tests.

Tottenham finally (maybe) return to action on Sunday against title challengers Liverpool. Speaking to Spurs' website ahead of the Reds' visit, Lloris insisted that former Juventus boss Conte is exactly the kind of coach to help the club kick on, but the players need to step up on this journey too.

“Football is all about details," Lloris said. “And when you come close to the final step, details are so important. We know that we have the manager who can help the team improve in those details.

“Antonio Conte’s CV talks by itself. He’s bringing his energy, his football approach but also, mainly, his mentality. He has the winning culture in his DNA. He played all his career for Juve, was at Juve as a manager and has won everywhere he’s been. So, it’s important to use his experience, but also for the players to take responsibility, and to become better as a team.”

Lloris' current Spurs contract expires at the end of the 2021/22 season, but it was reported recently that he and the club are in talks over fresh terms.

90min revealed in November that Conte would like to sign another goalkeeper regardless of Lloris' future, with Ajax's Andre Onana a long-term target of his.
