The 2022/23 Champions League group stage draw will soon take place to decide the first rounds of fixtures in this season's elite competition in Europe.

Real Madrid are the defending champions, beating Liverpool 1-0 in last season's final in Paris, and both sides will be among the favourites to claim the trophy again.

Here's what you need to know about the draw which will pit some of the best teams in Europe against each other for the 2022/23 season.

How to watch the Champions League 2022/23 group stage draw in the UK

If that doesn't float your boat in the UK, viewers can watch the draw at 17:00 BST on BT Sport. Live coverage starts at 16:00, with the event being held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Who has qualified for the Champions League 2022/23 group stage?

26 sides have automatically qualified for the Champions League through their 2021/22 league finish - aside from Eintracht Frankfurt, who won the Europa League.

A further six teams will reach the group stages with victory in play-off qualifiers.

The draw will then take place on 25 August with the 32 teams set and ordered into four separate pots. Pot 1 is made up of the Champions League and Europa League holders and the league title winners of the six top-ranked countries. Pots 2 to 4 are then determined by club coefficient rankings.

When does the Champions League 2022/23 group stage begin?

The first matchdays of the 2022/23 Champions League group stage will be Tuesday 6 September and Wednesday 7 September.

As usual, each team plays six games with the last matchdays being 1 and 2 November. The group stage in total has been condensed into eight weeks to compensate for the winter World Cup in Qatar.

Where is the Champions League 2022/23 final?

The 2022/23 Champions League final will be staged at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. The stadium holds 75,000 fans and hosted the UCL final in 2005, when Liverpool beat AC Milan in an all-time classic.
