The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will get underway this January as one of the world's most high-profile international tournaments prepares to kick off.

The 34th edition of the tournament is being held in Ivory Coast, with approximately a month of action involving some of the most prestigious players on the planet.

Current holders Senegal boast the likes of Sadio Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly, while Mohamed Salah's Egypt and Victor Osimhen's Nigeria will be among the favourites for this year's trophy.

Fortunately, audiences across the world can tune into the action, with matches being broadcast in the United Kingdom as well.

When does 2023 AFCON begin?

2023 AFCON is not too far away now, with the tournament commencing on Saturday 13 January. The opening match will see Ivory Coast face Guinea-Bissau at 20:00 (GMT) in Group A, with the hosts looking to start the tournament with a victory.

There will be a total of 52 matches, 36 of which will come in the group stage. The knockout phase will kick off on 27 January, the final group game coming three days earlier.

When is 2023 AFCON final?

The 2023 AFCON final will take place on Sunday 11 February, about a month after the tournament begins. There will also be a third-place play-off on Saturday 10 February between the losers of each semi-final.

Senegal enter this year's AFCON as current holders, lifting the trophy back in 2022. Mane's side won the tournament up against Salah's Egypt, beating the Pharaohs on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Despite their recent final defeat, Egypt remain the record holders at AFCON, having won the competition seven times - most recently in 2010.
