Paris Saint-Germain announced on Saturday that Kylian Mbappe has signed a new three-year deal at Parc des Princes.

The deal brings an end to a year-long saga in which Real Madrid heavily pursued the forward's signature, with PSG turning down a late nine-figure bid for Mbappe last summer.

It was expected that the World Cup winner would bring a curtain down on his career in Paris and make a move to the Spanish capital after he agreed personal terms, but instead chose to pen a fresh contract at PSG.

La Liga released a statement confirming that they plan on reporting the Ligue 1 champions to a number authorities - including the European Union - while Mbappe's would-be Real Madrid teammates haven't taken kindly to the news, either.

France strike partner Karim Benzema was particularly unimpressed, uploading a picture of Tupac Shakur shaking hands with actor Stephen Baldwin - who allegedly betrayed the legendary rapper - to his Instagram story.

Benzema had posted a picture of his bandaged hand pointing at a shining Real Madrid logo on his story earlier in the day, too. It'll be interesting to see how the two interact when they meet up on international duty in a couple of weeks.

While news was swirling about Mbappe's decision, current Real winger Vinicius Junior thought it would be a good time to thank the fans for a memorable season.

Dani Carvajal also took the time to reflect on a successful campaign for Los Blancos amid this stormy backdrop.

Rodrygo Goes, who Mbappe would have almost certainly displaced from the Real starting lineup, posted a picture of himself kissing the club logo on Twitter.

Real Madrid supporters notably cheered Mbappe's name when PSG were beaten at the Santiago Bernabeu this season. Judging by the reaction of their players and fans, that's probably a reception he won't be receiving on his next visit.
