Real Madrid are synonymous with the Champions League thanks to their constant success in the competition.

With another final on the horizon, the Spanish giants have a fresh opportunity to win the trophy they last claimed in 2018.

Here's how often they've won Europe's premier club competition.

How many times have Real Madrid won the Champions League?

Real Madrid are the most successful team in European Cup and Champions League history. Including the 2021/22 showpiece in Paris, Los Blancos have reached 17 finals and have won 13 of those.

Five of those came from 1956 to 1960, when Alfredo Di Stefano and co won the European Cup in five consecutive seasons.

They would win the tournament once more in the 1960s, beating Partizan in 1966 after suffering final defeats to Benfica and Inter.

It took until 1998 for Real to win the Champions League again, ushering in another spell of dominance as they repeated the trick in 2000 and 2002.

Then, in the 2010s, the band of stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos went on the rampage, winning the UCL a further four times, including three seasons in a row from 2015/16 to 2017/18.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool head-to-head record

Liverpool won their first three fixtures against Real Madrid but haven't tasted victory against the Spanish side since 2009.

The pair met in the 2018 final, when a Gareth Bale brace and Loris Karius' nightmare performance gave Real a 3-1 victory in Kyiv.
