Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo reflected that the atmosphere at Old Trafford was ‘on fire’ during Wednesday night’s Champions League comeback win against Atalanta, while captain Harry Maguire described the energy created by the fans as ‘incredible’.

United found themselves 2-0 down at half-time against an understrength Atalanta side missing a handful of key players, only to come roaring back after the break thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Maguire and Ronaldo to seal the win.

“Yes! The Theatre of Dreams is on fire! We are alive! We are Man United and we never give up! This is Old Trafford!” Ronaldo tweeted after the final whistle.

Maguire, meanwhile, said in post-match interviews that the fans, even when United were 2-0 down at half-time, gave the team the ‘energy’ to come back and win.

“We got cheered and clapped off at half-time from these fans, so they made a big difference," he said, via ManUtd.com.

“They gave us that energy, they gave us that belief and we got the result that they deserve.

“Tonight was a special night in terms of the togetherness, the spirit, the fight that we showed in the second half to keep believing and to keep pushing and like I said, the fans gave us that. The energy we felt from the fans in the second half was incredible.”

Bruno Fernandes, who set up the first United goal for Rashford with a stunning pass early in the second half., had a similar message, posting on Twitter: “We never give up! Never! Thank you, Old Trafford! We go again on Sunday!”

Rashford himself simply tweeted, “Oooof UCL nights,” while Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and David de Gea also alluded to United never giving up and the 'special' night at Old Trafford.
