Graham Potter has lamented Chelsea's current injury woes after Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic were forced off with ailments in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Sterling had to be taken off inside the opening five minutes of the game, injurying himself while attempting a backheel, while Pulisic was forced off after hurting his knee blocking a shot on goal.

The two forwards join an extensive injury list at Stamford Bridge which includes Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Armando Broja, N'Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell among others.

Speaking after the game against City, Blues boss Potter admitted that he didn't yet know the extent of the injuries suffered by Sterling and Pulisic, and also revealed why Mason Mount was missing from the matchday squad.

"It’s too soon [to know the extent]. Raheem, it was his first action in the game, a strange one, a back heel," the former Brighton boss said. "Christian’s, he was running at full pelt and it’s a blocked shot and contact with his knee. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad.

"Mason [Mount] got a kick yesterday in training, again we’re hopeful for the weekend but it’s one of those things at the moment. I’ve never experienced anything like it and I’d ideally not want experience it here. But it is what it is, I have to just carry on.

"Obviously, the expectation is where it is. You want to be here, have all your players available, a fully fit squad, and be able to compete. You know the demands of our supporters, who I thought were fantastic tonight, really supportive and got behind the team in a great way. It is frustrating for everybody at the moment.”

The defeat leaves Chelsea 10th in the Premier League table, 19 points behind leaders Arsenal and 10 points behind Manchester United in the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.
