France suffered heartbreak at the 2022 World Cup but are back on the horse as they aim to secure qualification for Euro 2024.

Kylian Mbappe did everything he could in the final in Qatar but still ended up watching his former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi lift the world title for Argentina.

With the young superstar now captain following the exit of Hugo Lloris, Les Bleus are hoping for a straightforward qualification campaign for their next international tournament in Germany.

Here's what you need to know about France's Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The 2022 World Cup finalists kicked off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in some style as they thrashed the Netherlands 4-0 on Matchday 1.

Didier Deschamps' side put Ronald Koeman's Oranje to the sword in Paris as Mbappe scored twice in a convincing victory. Benjamin Pavard's fierce strike from distance was enough to beat the Republic of Ireland and leave France in pole position in Group B at this early stage.

France have not always replicated the same impressive performance but points have continued to flow in their subsequent matches. Thanks as much to the heroics of goalkeeper Mike Maignan as Deschamps' innate caution, France went through the first five games of qualifying without conceding a single goal.

Even before their fast start, Les Bleus were expected to qualify for Euro 2024 with ease and many will favour them to go all the way in Germany once the tournament rolls around.

How can France qualify for Euro 2024?

France can practically afford to book their ticket to Germany this summer after a five-star start to qualification. The top two nations from every group qualify for the finals and France are almost there - which is not enough for their head coach. "I've already experienced situations with almost," Deschamps warned in September, "it's not qualified. I am pragmatic and factual, the players are aware of that too."

At the halfway point of qualification, the Netherlands and Greece are the only nations that can leapfrog France in Group B. If Greece drop points in any of their subsequent matches, Les Bleus would need just one more win to be guaranteed of a top-two spot.

While Gibraltar are Group B's unsurprising strugglers, the Republic of Ireland are still involved in a scrap for second place with Greece and the Netherlands - although the latter two countries can also qualify via the Nations League.

When is Euro 2024?

The month-long Euro 2024 finals will start on Friday, June 14, with the final scheduled to take place at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Sunday, July 14.

The tournament will take place across ten host cities: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
