Midfielder Matias Vera has left the Houston Dynamo for Argentine top-flight side Argentinos Juniors on loan through the 2023 season.

The 27-year-old returns to his home country after three years in Major League Soccer, originally joining the Dynamo from San Lorenzo in 2019. Vera went on to make 115 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing two assists while picking up the club's MVP award in the 2019 season.

Vera is the latest in a wave of outgoings for the Dynamo, who are reshaping their roster in preparation for their first campaign under new head coach Ben Olsen.

Alongside Vera, the likes of Darwin Quintero, Tim Parker, Fafa Picault, and Adam Lundqvist have all left the club, while Artur and Brad Smith are among the most notable arrivals.

With Vera gone, the Dynamo's first-choice midfield pairing is likely to be Mexico international Hector Herrera alongside Artur.

Houston are looking to make the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017 in the upcoming season. They kick off the 2023 campaign away at FC Cincinnati on February 25.
