The Houston Dynamo have loaned Joe Corona to Swedish top-division side GIF Sundsvall through 2022.

The Major League Soccer side utilized their one offseason buyout to waive the midfielder after not being selected during the original process and instead guaranteed a contract with Houston.

Corona originally joined the Western Conference team last winter after being selected by Austin FC in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Process. He recorded two assists across 30 appearances.

“Joe is a top professional with great character,” general manager Pat Onstad said in a release. “We are grateful for his time at the club and wish him well with the next steps of his career.”

Corona previously spent one season with the LA Galaxy, and almost nine years with Liga MX side Club Tijuana.

Internationally, he’s earned 23 caps with the US men’s national team.
