Houston Dash have signed Mexican international forward Maria Sánchez to a two-year contract, the club announced Thursday.

Sánchez spent part of last summer with the Dash on short-term loan from UANL Tigres Femenil last season, and previously played in NWSL with Chicago Red Stars.

The American Falls, Idaho, native spent the last two years in LigaMX Femenil with Chivas and Tigres. Tigres reached the league final last month, notching five goals and three assists during the team’s postseason run.

Sánchez scored eight goals during her two seasons in LigaMX, and debuted for the Mexican National Team in 2015. The left-winger has appeared 39 times across all competitions for El Tri, scoring five times in her international career.

“It is fantastic to be adding Maria to the team,” head coach James Clarkson said. “She is an outstanding player and a wonderful person. She’s going to have a major impact on the league this season.”

The 25-year-old forward is excited to return to a club she briefly represented in 2021.

“Joining the Dash is such a privilege for me,” Sánchez said. “It’s getting another shot at my dream, and I couldn’t be more excited to do it with a team and coaching staff that I have tremendous respect for!”

The 2022 NWSL season will start with a six-week preseason camp on Feb. 1 in preparation for the Challenge Cup, which kicks off on Saturday, March 19.
