Milan remained in hot pursuit of rivals Inter at the top of the Serie A table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday afternoon.

The Rossoneri took the lead on 27 minutes, when Rade Krunic was scythed down on the edge of the penalty area, and he dusted himself off to curl the resulting free kick into the top corner with frightening accuracy.

Milan then doubled their lead on 50 minutes, and through a surprising source. Full-back Diogo Dalot darted inside and ran onto a pass on the edge of the box. The Portuguese star dummied and let the ball run across his body, before lashing superbly into the top corner.

The Rossoneri controlled the game from thereon in, although they did have to survive the odd scare in the dying minutes, as Verona began to rally. But Stefano Pioli's men eased to the final whistle, picking up three points and closing the gap to rivals Inter at the top of the Serie A table.

Let's check out the player ratings from a huge victory for the Rossoneri.

MILAN RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Gianluigi Donnarumma (GK) - 7/10 - Didn't even face a shot in the opening 45 minutes. Could have taken the first half off. Second half was equally as quiet.

Davide Calabria (RB) - 7/10 - Curled some nice crosses in for Leao to attack. Would have been capitalised upon if the aerially prolific Ibrahimovic was on the pitch.

Fikayo Tomori (CB) - 8/10 - Endured a nervy moment early on and almost gifted Verona the lead, but recovered well to enjoy a spirited duel with Lasagna.

Alessio Romagnoli (CB) - 8/10 - Looked much more composed and confident after his previous rocky displays. Partnered Tomori well and nullified the threat of Zaccagni and Lasagna.

Diogo Dalot (LB) - 8/10 - Handed a rare start in place of the usually undroppable Theo Hernandez. Must have drunk from the same water bottle that the Frenchman normally uses, because he produced a finish that his superior would have been proud of.

2. Midfielders

Franck Kessie (CM) - 8/10 - Linked the midfield and forwards nicely, playing his part in the one-two which eventually led to the opener. A solid man in the middle of the park.

Rade Krunic (CM) - 8/10 - Danced through the Verona back line and almost won a spot kick, but was brought down just outside the box. Stepped up to whip the resulting set piece into the top corner. Inch perfect. The cherry on top of a great display.

Soualiho Meite (CM) - 7/10 - Possibly his best performance in a Milan shirt. Controlled the midfield in the first half, not allowing Verona any space to formulate an attack. Did enough in the second, too.

3. Forwards

Alexis Saelemaekers (RW) - 7/10 - Came close in the second half with a fierce effort. Tidy on the ball and often made the right decision when looking for teammates. Got the assist for the second.

Rafael Leao (ST) - 7/10 - Blasted a shot just over the bar from a tight angle. Close. Produced a lovely little dummy to allow the ball to run to Dalot for the second goal. Made up for Ibrahimovic's absence.

Samu Castillejo (LW) - 6/10 - Worked hard for his team and kept it simple when in possession. Not the most fearsome of wingers, but he does a job for the Rossoneri.

4. Substitutes

Jens Petter Hauge (LW) - 6/10
