Centre-back Harry Maguire has not travelled with the rest of the Manchester United first team for Monday's meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Alongside summer signing Raphael Varane, Maguire was heavily criticised for a disappointing performance in the recent 1-1 draw with Newcastle, after which interim boss Ralf Rangnick did his best to defend his centre-backs.

Maguire had been expected to be given another chance to redeem himself against Wolves, but the Manchester Evening News note that there has been no sign of the England international at the Lowry Hotel before the game.

The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell then noted that Maguire has picked up an injury, and his absence could be sorely felt as United look to be a little short on centre-backs.

Victor Lindelof has been out with Covid-19 and did not travel with the squad, but it is not ruled out that he could arrive on Monday if he can register a negative test in time.

There was no sign of Eric Bailly at the team hotel, but unlike Maguire, there is a suggestion that he could still be involved.

If Bailly misses out, that would leave Varane and the lesser-spotted Phil Jones as the only recognised centre-backs in the travelling squad, assuming Lindelof does not recover from Covid-19 before kick-off.

In more positive news, Bruno Fernandes is back with the team after missing the 3-1 victory over Burnley through suspension, while Jesse Lingard remains in contention for his first Premier League start for United in over two years.

Anthony Martial remains out of the squad as he looks to leave United this month - a transfer which has been complicated by his high wages and the two years remaining on his contract. United have a 12-month extension option as well.

90min revealed in December that Sevilla are struggling to meet United's financial demands for a loan deal, and the Red Devils have told Martial that he will likely have to accept a pay cut if he wants to leave.
