Harry Kane and Son Heung-min Close in on Prolific Premier League Duo Record

After an obligatory knee slide, Son Heung-Min waited for his teammate to join him in celebrating his late winner against Burnley with open arms and a question: "Did you get the assist?"

Harry Kane gave a nod of reassurance to widen the grin already plastered across Son's face. Tottenham Hotspur's prolific duo have only continued to combine with devastating effect since and Kane's opener against Crystal Palace on Sunday, naturally assisted by Son, took their season tally to 12.

Only the fabled partnership of Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton - christened SAS - for Blackburn Rovers can better this figure in the competition's history, when the England duo combined for 13 Premier League goals in the 1994/95 campaign.

That season Blackburn won their first, and so far only, Premier League title. Tottenham are also vying for their maiden triumph in the competition but are even more reliant upon their prolific pairing than Sir Kenny Dalglish's side of the mid-1990s.

Between them, Shearer and Sutton scored 63% of Blackburn's league goals in 1994/95. 12 games into the current campaign and no other Tottenham player has netted more than once in the league, leaving Kane and Son to account for a ludicrous 79% of Spurs' strikes.

While Shearer and Sutton's record has stood for the best part of 25 years, Kane and Son aren't the only pairing in recent campaigns to rank among the elite. Just last season, Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore combined for ten goals at Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson matched the Tottenham duo's tally of 12 with Bournemouth in 2018/19.

Newcastle United have recreated the double-act of Fraser and Wilson at the other end of the country this season. They may be yet to officially combine for a goal, but Fraser did deliver the deflected cross for Wilson's second goal against Everton during the Magpies' 2-1 win in November.

Robbie Fowler and Stan Collymore with Liverpool in 1995/96 alongside Dennis Bergkamp and Nicolas Anelka at Arsenal in 1998/99 also combined for ten Premier League goals. Though the less revered partnership of Les Ferdinand and Kevin Gallen could go one better than both these duos by racking up 11 goals for Queens Park Rangers in 1994/95.
