Harry Kane has explained Bayern Munich tried to "hurt" Manchester United in transition during their 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils finished bottom of Champions League Group A after picking up only four points from their six games, exiting European competition on the whole for the season. Copenhagen's 1-0 win at home to Galatasaray ensured that United would only have finished third and entered the Europa League had they beaten Bayern regardless.

United were poor throughout their defeat to Bayern, with the visitors securing victory thanks to a second-half goal from Kingsley Coman.

Coman's strike was assisted by Kane, who gave a post-match debrief to TNT Sports and revealed how Bayern sought to get at United.

"I felt like we controlled the game and I felt like we had the better chances. United might have had a bit more of the possession," Kane said.

"We were calm and knew in the quick transitions that we could hurt them and that was kind of what happened. It is always tough when you're top of the group and through already, but we had a good motivation after the result we had at the weekend and it was nice to get the win today."

United became the first English team to concede a staggering 15 goals during the group stage of the Champions League - a figure which is currently a joint-high in this season's competition with Belgian side Royal Antwerp.

Erik ten Hag's side scored three goals in three of their group matches, but picked up just one point from that trio of fixtures, coming in a 3-3 draw at Galatasaray.

They return to action on Sunday with a trip to rivals Liverpool in the Premier League.
