Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has insisted that while his side were 'outstanding' against Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Friday, they must not get carried away with the manner of the 8-2 demolition job.

Bayern took the lead in just the fourth minute of the game and although they conceded moments later, they continued to look a threat each time they went forward. Indeed, the Bundesliga champions put four past Barça after just 31 minutes, and continued to assert their dominance after the break.

The contest may have finished 8-2, but perhaps the most frightening part is that Bayern could have taken a few more chances in front of goal throughout the night.

Because of the new mini-tournament style format, Bayern will not have long to recover before they're next back in action, however, as they will play either Manchester City or Lyon in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

As a result, Die Roten boss Flick was keen not to get carried away after the game, explaining that it was merely a 'small marker', telling reporters after the game that his players must regroup and focus in order to best prepare for the last four clash.

"You know that I do not look back because only the here and now matters. Yes, we played an outstanding game and we can be happy but we all know we still have hard work to do if we are to stand in the end where we want to stand," Flick said after the thumping win, quoted by MailOnline Sport.

"We know how quickly it can happen in football. We must recharge from tomorrow for the semi-finals. It is a win and we wanted to reach the semi-finals.

"Ok, it is impressive, we set a small marker but the experienced players know that the next game awaits and we will need the same performance. Let it sink in, analyse and then prepare for the semi-final," Flick concluded.

It was a performance of the highest order, sweeping Barcelona aside with extraordinary ease and humiliating them in the process. Friday's performance and result will only reaffirm the growing belief that Bayern may just be the team to beat in the Champions League, but Flick is keen to keep his players grounded.

With a domestic league and cup double already in the bag, all eyes are now fixed on claiming a first Champions League crown in close to a decade.
