Great Britain started their Olympic journey with a comfortable 2-0 win over Chile in Sapporo.

Ellen White started the tournament how she means to go on, scoring either side of half-time after earlier seeing a goal disallowed after straying into an offside position. Lauren Hemp and Kim Little also impressed, while GB controlled the game in midfield.

Hege Riise’s side will face tougher challenges to come against Japan and Canada but will have more confidence heading into those games off the back of this result and performance.

Here’s a look at how the individual GB players fared…

Team GB player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Ellie Roebuck (GK) 6/10: Largely a spectator and will be tested more in the coming games.

Lucy Bronze (RB) 7/10: Not tasked with much defensive work in light of GB’s dominance and it was her two crosses that made the two goals.

Steph Houghton (CB) 6/10: Always in control at the back. Drove forward with the ball out of defence with intent in the second half.

Millie Bright (CB) 6/10: Another who will face much tougher challenges.

Rachel Daley (LB) 7/10: Not her usual position at club level but the Houston Dash got forward, particularly in the second half.

2. Midfielders

Kim Little (CM) 8/10: Operated as the more advanced of the midfield three and was always looking to make things happen. Probably could have scored herself but hesitated at the key moment.

Keira Walsh (CM) 7/10: Controlled the game as GB’s deep-lying playmaker, showcasing a superb range of passing.

Caroline Weir (CM) 7/10: Strong performance from the Scot in midfield, involved in superb inter-play that kept Chile at arm's length.

Ellen White (ST) 8/10: Had an early attempt ruled out for offside but was rewarded for her persistence with two poacher’s goals. Had an earlier effort ruled out for offside.

Lauren Hemp (LW) 7/10: Enjoyed a very lively first half on the left flank and was a constant source of danger, even keeping the ball alive for the early goal with a brave far post header. But she was switched to the right in the second half and was much less effective.
