Ten-man Barcelona conceded a late equaliser as Granada earned a late point in Andalusia thanks to Antonio Puertas' strike on Saturday night.

Luuk de Jong looked to have broken the deadlock early on when he headed in Gavi's cross, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR check due to an earlier offside.

It was a first half of few highlights in truth, with Granada happy to sit back, absorb pressure and then break with pace on the counter.

However, Barça clicked into gear in the second period and found the breakthrough when De Jong nodded in Dani Alves' brilliant cross beyond Luis Maximiano.

While Granada were pretty wasteful with their shooting and struggled to create clear cut opportunities, a second yellow card for Gavi opened the door for the hosts to pile on the pressure during the final ten minutes with a player advantage.

That pressure eventually told in the 89th minute as Puertas collected the ball from a corner and thumped it in, being helped out by some weary Barça defending.

The result means Xavi's side missed the chance to jump up to third in La Liga and instead remain sixth, though they are just a point off the Champions League qualification spots.

Barcelona player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Gerard Pique

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GK) - 5/10 - Got down sharply to keep out Machis. Nearly gave Grenada a late win with some sloppy distribution.

Dani Alves (RB) - 8/10 - His first Barça appearance since 2016 and celebrated it with a wonderful cross for De Jong's opener. Made some important challenges and interceptions.

Gerard Pique (CB) - 7/10 - Dominant in the air and used the ball well. Missed a decent chance from a Dembele cross. Got booked and somehow avoided a second yellow for a wild lunge.

Eric Garcia (CB) - 6/10 - Accurate with his passing and made a handful of tackles and clearances before needing to be withdrawn due to injury.

Jordi Alba (LB) - 6/10 - Steady enough having missed Barça's last two games.

2. Midfielders

Gavi (CM) - 3/10 - Brought down Suarez with a scything challenge for a yellow card. Didn't have the best evening and picked up a second yellow in the second half to leave his side in the lurch.

Sergio Busquets (CM) - 6/10 - A typical Busquets performance. Resisted Granada's pressing well, recycled the ball and pulled out a few nice turns. Definitely slowing down at 33, mind.

Nico (CM) - 7/10 - Displayed some nice touches and dribbles to get away from Granada's midfielders.

3. Forwards

Ousmane Dembele (RW) - 7/10 - An exciting presence on the right, either shooting from distance or setting up opportunities for his teammates.

Luuk de Jong (ST) - 8/10 - Had a well taken header disallowed and nearly opened the scoring again with an audacious scorpion kick. Finally got his goal when he converted Alves' cross. Withdrawn on the hour mark.

Ferran Jutgla (LW) - 5/10 - Only real opportunity was a shot from outside the box which went well wide of Granada's goal.

4. Substitutes

Clement Lenglet (CB) - 5/10 - Booked within moments of replacing Garcia.

Abde Ezzalzouli (LW) - 5/10 - Picked up a yellow card.

Memphis Depay (ST) - 5/10 - Also booked.

Alvaro Sanz (CM) - N/A
