Marcus Rashford's brilliant finish and Bruno Fernandes' penalty gave Manchester United a comfortable lead in their Europa League quarter final with Granada as they ran out 2-0 winners in the first leg in Spain.

England international Rashford latched onto Victor Lindelof's glorious long ball to control and finish, while Fernandes converted a penalty that goalkeeper Rui Silva got a hand to but could not keep out to give the visitors a vital cushion ahead of next week's return fixture.

The game was largely devoid of quality and punctuated frequently by nasty and petulant fouls, and United will be without a number of players due to suspensions.

Here are the United player ratings from a solid night's work in Andalusia.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

David de Gea (GK) - 6/10 - Kenedy gave him a few shots to catch, but that was as tough as it got for the returning Spaniard.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 6/10 - Shut down the right hand side for United, offering his usual robust defensive skills. Didn't quite come off for him in the attacking third.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 6/10 - Dribbled the ball out from the back a few times and took some knocks throughout the match. However, he got booked for a tussle with Roberto Soldado and will miss the return fixture.

Victor Lindelof (CB) - 7/10 - A glorious pass that set Rashford in on goal helped United secure the victory. Steve McManaman would have described it as 'just a 50-yard pass', it was that good.

Luke Shaw (LB) - 5/10 - Yellow carded for a late clip and will also miss next week's game. Taken off at half time.

2. Midfielders

Paul Pogba (CM) - 5/10 - Booked early on for bringing down Granada winger Kenedy. Couldn't make much of an impact in the second half and was brought off.

Scott McTominay (CM) - 6/10 - Also booked in the first half and will miss the second leg. Was one of United's biggest outlets with the ball and was readily available, though didn't use possession particularly well.

Bruno Fernandes (AM) - 7/10 - Made a number of key passes but wasn't his usual dangerous self around the penalty area and was dispossessed six times - a game high. Got his opportunity with the penalty and was typically composed - even if Silva might have saved it on another day.

3. Forwards

Daniel James (RW) - 6/10 - Somehow managed to injure Domingos Duarte while being the recipient of a horrid challenge from the Granada defender. Was a good outlet down the left even if his final ball lacked at times.

Mason Greenwood (ST) - 5/10 - Squandered a few decent openings on the counter by over-dribbling and was dispossessed a few times. Will have more opportunities as the central striker but this wasn't his most efficient outing.

Marcus Rashford (LW) - 7/10 - Brilliantly brought down Lindelof's raking pass to slot in United's opener. Did lose possession three times and was brought off after the hour for Cavani.

4. Substitutes

Alex Telles - 5/10 - Replaced Shaw at half time and was neither more or less impressive. Quite bland.

Edinson Cavani - 6/10 - A few nice touches and held the ball up well on the counter.

Nemanja Matic - 5/10 - Came into midfield and got booked.

Donny van de Beek - N/A - Like many of his appearances this season, he had no time to make an impact.
