Chelsea were one of the more prominent suitors for Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer as co-owner Todd Boehly met the Portugal international's agent, Jorge Mendes, to discuss a possible transfer.

While Boehly was open to pursuing Ronaldo, then-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was not as keen and the decision was made to abandon their interest, with the Blues ultimately bringing in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona instead.

However, with Ronaldo now a free agent following his departure from Manchester United and Graham Potter now in the dugout at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have once again been named as potential suitors.

90min understands that Boehly is yet to rule out pursuing Ronaldo, whose performances at the World Cup are being watched incredibly carefully by the American.

As was the case with Tuchel, Potter will be given a significant say in Chelsea's transfer business alongside the recruitment analyst who followed him from Brighton, Kyle Macauley, and no decision on Ronaldo would be made without Potter's approval.

Sources close to the Chelsea boss have confirmed to 90min that Potter is believed to be less interested in a move for Ronaldo, despite his side's struggles in front of goal, and he has distanced himself from signing the veteran striker - who has also been snubbed by Newcastle United.

While there is an acceptance at Chelsea that the team needs more goals, Potter is not convinced that bringing Ronaldo is the way to go and could wait until the summer to bolster his forward line, with RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku potentially the first of many signings.
