Jurgen Damm is no longer training with Atlanta United, with head coach Gonzalo Pineda admitting he’s not in the team’s plans.
While his departure may have been imminent under Pineda’s new leadership, the head coach finally confirmed suspicions when speaking to the press while the team started its preseason training camp in Guadalajara, Mexico.
“At this moment he’s not in the team’s plans. At this time he’s training on his own, and we of course are grateful to Jurgen for what he has contributed to the team. At this time we are looking to go in a different direction. My hope is that la directiva and his agent find the best thing for him.”
Damm first joined Atlanta on July 1, 2020 as a free agent after his contract with Liga MX side Tigres UANL expired at the end of the 2019/2020 season. He went on to record four assists in 14 appearances during his first campaign for Atlanta.
Though he arrived on a free transfer, Damm strained the club with hefty wages. He earned more than $1.5m in guaranteed compensation in 2021 alone.
Now, the player is rumored to be joining a Liga MX side. While the league’s transfer window closed, clubs have until March 9 to make two final additions to their rosters. but only if those players arrive as free agents. Damm would fit the requirements.
