Giovanni Reyna Agrees New Borussia Dortmund Deal Until 2023

Giovanni Reyna has reportedly signed a new contract extension with Borussia Dortmund, tying him to the club until 2023.

The 17-year-old has emerged as yet another wonderkid within Dortmund's ranks, making 11 appearances for the senior team this season and impressing alongside the likes of Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

The American youth international is son of former Manchester City and Rangers player Claudio, and has attracted a large amount of interest from across Europe. As a result, speculation linking him with a move away from Dortmund - due to his contract expiring in the summer of 2021 - had been gathering pace.

However, Kicker report that Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has already tied Reyna down to the club for another couple of years - a deal which would see him stay with the Black and Yellows until 2023.

Dortmund are yet to confirm the reports about Reyna's new contract, but it's believed an extra two years will be added on to his deal when it expires next summer.

Kicker confirms that the '3+2 model' relating to the contracts of young players in Germany is a widely used system throughout the country, and such a deal was also struck by Dortmund with Jadon Sancho.

Reyna announced himself in the DFB-Pokal on his debut in February, coming off the bench to score a crucial and stunning winner against Werder Bremen. The goal not only alerted the world to his talent, it also made him the youngest scorer in the cup competition's history.

With Sancho potentially set to leave Dortmund this summer, and Erling Haaland perhaps not too far behind the Englishman, the Black and Yellows will have been eager to secure Reyna's future, with the American set to play a bigger role for the Bundesliga outfit next season.
