Giovani Lo Celso has joined Villarreal on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season.
The Argentina international joined Spurs on an initial loan deal from Real Betis in August 2019 before activating a purchase clause in January 2020.
Despite impressing in a stop-start debut campaign heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, Lo Celso has failed to rediscover the form that saw Tottenham move to sign him in the first place.
His time in north London has also been limited by various injuries and fitness concerns and Spurs confirmed his departure in a brief statement on their website.
"Giovani Lo Celso has joined La Liga side Villarreal on loan for the remainder of the season," it read.
"The Argentina midfielder joined us from Real Betis in 2019 and has made 84 appearances in our colours to date, scoring eight goals."
Lo Celso was dropped by Antonio Conte from Spurs' matchday squad to face Chelsea prior to the international break, with the midfielder taking to social media to announce that this was a tactical decision made by the Italian.
Since then, Lo Celso has been shopped around by Spurs, and they have found a willing suitor in Unai Emery's Villarreal, with the Argentina joining on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.
