Gio Queiroz has returned to parent club Arsenal, cutting short her season-long loan at Everton.

The forward joined the Gunners from Barcelona in the summer, and was immediately sent on loan to Everton for the duration of the 2022/23 campaign.

Gio made seven WSL appearances for the Toffees, and netted one goal on what would be her final league appearance for the club against Tottenham in December.

Arsenal have confirmed that the Brazilian international will now remain with the club for the rest of the 2022/23 season.

"Everyone at Arsenal would like to welcome Gio back to the club and looks forward to seeing her in red and white soon," a club statement read.

The recall of Gio comes after Arsenal were dealt a series of attacking blows prior to the WSL winter break, with injuries to key forwards Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema. The duo are both set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering ACL ruptures.

Everton manager Brian Sorensen labelled Gio the 'last piece of the puzzle' upon completing the loan signing of the 19-year-old in September. However, a hip injury limited her playing time during her spell on Merseyside, where she registered 128 minutes of football across seven WSL appearances.

Arsenal currently sit second in the WSL, three points behind Chelsea and with a game in hand over the league leaders. The pair meet at the Emirates on Sunday.
