AC Milan have confirmed that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and winger Jens Petter Hauge have tested positive for coronavirus and are now in isolation at home.

Three other members of Milan staff have also contracted the virus and are isolating as well.

Neither Donnarumma nor Hauge, nor indeed the other three employees, have displayed any symptoms. Milan have since re-tested players and staff, all of whom have returned negative tests.

Local health authorities have been informed as per ongoing protocol.

Serie A leaders Milan are due to play Roma on Monday night and it will be the first game that Donnarumma has missed in any competition since March and only the fourth game he has ever missed in Serie A since making his league debut in October 2015.

The 21-year-old stopper had even been wearing the captain’s armband earlier this season in his role as deputy to usual skipper Alessio Romagnoli.

For Hauge, who arrived at San Siro from Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt at the start of this month, it is a major blow in his efforts to secure a place in the team. The 21-year-old made his debut as a substitute against Spezia shortly after joining, but then didn’t get on the pitch against Inter.

In Milan’s last game, Hauge came off the bench in the Europa League against Celtic and scored the late third goal that made sure of the victory against difficult opposition.
