Two of the best sides at Euro 2022 face off in their group stage opener on Friday as Germany face Denmark.

Die Nationalelf have an incredible history at the European Championships - they have won nine of the 11 finals they've partaken in. However, they head to England off the back of their worst performance back in 2017 when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Denmark, who were the side that eliminated Germany, finished as runners-up that year and will be looking to go one better this time around.

Here's everything you need to know ahead of their showdown.

Germany team news

Germany should have a clean bill of health for this one, with Martina Voss-Tecklenburg able to freely select from her squad.

They will be skippered by Wolfsburg's forward Alexandra Popp, but there is speculation that she may not even start such is the strong competition for places in the team. Lea Schuller will lead the line hoping to add to her 25 goals in 39 games for Germany thus far in her young career.

Denmark team news

Lars Sondergaard is not believed to have any injury or Covid-19 concerns in the lead up to this one.

Plenty of eyes will be on star striker and captain Pernille Harder, who became her country's all-time leading scorer at the back end of last year.

There will be further WSL representation in the form of Reading's veteran midfielder Sanne Troelsgaard, Everton's Rikke Sevecke, Arsenal's Simone Boye Sorensen and Man Utd's Signe Bruun.

Germany vs Denmark predicted lineups

Germany vs Denmark score prediction

Germany will undoubtedly be out for revenge after falling to Denmark in 2017, but they know it'll be important to keep their heads in order to secure an opening three points and alleviate pressure on their final two group games.

Denmark will take to a pitch that is so often graced by other great Danes, but any notion of home-field advantage will not be felt. Expect Germany to hold on for the perfect start at Euro 2022.

Score prediction: Germany 2-1 Denmark
