Germany 7-1 Latvia: Player ratings as Die Mannschaft run riot in friendly mauling

Germany registered seven different goal-scorers on Monday night, as they thrashed Latvia 7-1 in their last fixture before kicking off their Euro 2020 campaign.

Die Mannschaft predictably dominated proceedings and found the breakthrough in the 20th minute. Robin Gosens and Kai Havertz combined beautifully down the left before the Atalanta wing-back thrashed the ball into the roof of the net. The hosts doubled their advantage just a minute later when Ilkay Gundogan rifled an effort into the top corner after the ball had broken for him on the edge of the area.

Thomas Muller then tapped in a Gosens cut back, Havertz forced an own goal out of Latvia goalkeeper Robert Ozols and Serge Gnabry finished sensationally from Mats Hummels' phenomenal pass to make it 5-0 at half time.

Guess what? Yep, it didn't take long for a sixth to be added. Substitute Timo Werner didn't miss the opportunity to grab his 16th international goal on 50 minutes, cleverly flicking home from Joshua Kimmich's pass.

Die Mannschaft were momentarily shocked in the 75th minute when Latvia substitute Aleksejs Saveljevs rocketed the ball on the half-volley into Manuel Neuer's top corner from around 20 yards out, giving the Bayern man no chance. However, under a minute later, Leroy Sane restored his side's six-goal cushion by simply tapping in Muller's lay off.

Rather surprisingly, Germany failed to find an eighth (half a joke) but Low's men saw the game out as comfortably as you'd imagine to register a first win in three, before facing France in their opening Euro 2020 fixture on June 15.

GERMANY PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 6/10 - Made his 100th cap on the night and will be devastated to not have kept a clean sheet - although there was nothing he could do about the goal.

Matthias Ginter (CB) - 7/10 - Had very little to do but accommodated for Kimmich to stay as high up as possible, covering the right back area strongly and efficiently.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 8/10 - Had virtually no defending to do but was commanding nonetheless and distributed the ball brilliantly, notably threading one through in style for Gnabry to make it five.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 7/10 - Was strong, calm and immovable whenever he was faced with a Latvian player hoping to break out - yeah, good luck with that.

2. Wing-backs and Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich (RWB) - 7/10 - Was nowhere near as influential as he can be from central areas, but did provide some creativity from wide and dug out some clever balls into the middle. Grabbed the assist for his side's sixth.

Toni Kroos (CM) - 8/10 - Remained deep throughout and just sprayed the ball around like the master he is, constantly moving possession into space with efficiency and keeping the side ticking along.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - 8/10 - Found pockets of space between the lines and proved a menace throughout, helping Germany to build attacks. Finished wonderfully to make it 2-0.

Robin Gosens (LWB) - 9/10 - Crucial in stretching the Latvian defence as he hugged the touchline and was as impactful in the final third as you could hope from a wing-back - scored a great goal to open the floodgates and assisted Muller for the third.

3. Forwards

Serge Gnabry (RW) - 9/10 - Floated around nicely and was involved in several beautiful moves. Created his side's third with lovely vision and finished sensationally for the fifth before being brought off at the break.

Thomas Muller (ST) - 9/10 - Found himself all over the place for the most part, working tirelessly to create openings, link things together and press his opposition. Deservedly grabbed a first goal in three years on his return.

Kai Havertz (LW) - 9/10 - Once again displayed remarkable assurance and ease on the ball and completely dominated his opponents. Assisted fantastically for the opener and forced the fourth after some lovely footwork in the area before coming off at half time.

4. Substitutes

Leroy Sane (RW) - 7/10 - Showed great pace and movement in the final third and eventually managed to get his name on the scoresheet with his die's seventh.

Timo Werner (LW) - 8/10 - Made an instant impact, finishing nicely to make it 6-0 after half time and went on to play a crucial part in the seventh.
