Gerard Pique says Barcelona are slowly getting back to their imperious best following their progression in the Europa League.

Barça progressed from their playoff tie with Napoli over two legs, winning the second match 4-2 in Naples thanks to goals from Jordi Alba, Frenkie de Jong, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Pique himself.

They await Friday's draw, where they could be pitted against the likes of Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham among others.

Barça struggled under Ronald Koeman earlier this season but Xavi's arrival has coincided with an upturn in form which has seen them climb to fourth in La Liga, and Pique says they have gone back to their roots to improve.

"The team hadn't competed for a while at the level that a club like Barça is supposed to," he said. "We've gone back to our origins, to what we should always have played for and perhaps stopped doing for a while.

"It's a message for ourselves and for people from outside. Little by little, we are coming back.

"I don't think it's fair to target anyone. We had a tendency that was everyone's fault. The club made decisions in all areas that were not the right ones, but we have to turn the page. We are in a good moment. We have to continue in this dynamic. We haven't won anything but it's true that, where we come from, these victories help a lot.

"The change in the bench...there have been many changes. It is reflected in the team. This is a continuous improvement. Sometimes we would have liked to win games like Pamplona, Granada, Cornellà...the line is ascending. This trend is going to end up in a good position. We'll see."

The Catalan giants are next in action on Sunday when they host Athletic Club at Camp Nou.
