Frank Lampard has delivered an optimistic verdict on Christian Pulisic's latest hamstring injury, but still believes the winger faces a few weeks out of action.

Injuries have threatened to derail Pulisic's promising start to life at Chelsea, but he looked to have recovered from a hamstring issue heading into Saturday's victory over Burnley. He was named in the starting lineup for a third straight league match, but was forced to suddenly pull out after feeling a tweak in the warm-up.

It was yet another blow for a player who has now missed 22 matches with injury since the start of last season, but while Lampard doesn't expect his absence to be long-term, he admits it will be 'weeks' before he can return to action.

"He’s played three games, we’ve tried to manage him in the week and it’s a small feeling in his hamstring so we’ll have to see how he is over the next 24 hours," Lampard said, in quotes relayed by The Sun.

"It’s a minor feeling that he had but it was definitely not right to go into 90 minutes of a game with that. Hopefully it’s short term, we’re talking weeks."

'Weeks' offers only a vague timeline for his return, but the trip to Newcastle (on 21 November) might be a target date. Lampard will certainly be hopeful of having him back for then, considering the volume of fixtures that follows.

Following the trip to Tyneside, the Blues will face Rennes and Spurs in quick succession, before Sevilla, Leeds, Krasnodar, Everton, Wolves, West Ham and Arsenal make up a hectic three-week run.

Despite concerns over their defensive record, victory over Burnley saw Chelsea keep their fifth clean sheet in six matches, and took them to within a point of the top four. If they can keep that sort of form going into the festive period, then they will likely be in good shape on all fronts come the other side.
