Chelsea sent out a signal of intent in their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, romping to a comfortable 4-0 win against a side renowned for being defensively resolute.

After a goalless first half, Ben Chilwell lashed home from close range to open his Chelsea account, before his delivery was headed home by Kurt Zouma to double the hosts advantage. Two Jorginho penalties added some shiny gloss to the scoreline, but the three points were no less than Frank Lampard's side deserved.

After the game, Lampard spoke to Chelsea's official website about the positives from the performance, as well as addressing Tammy Abraham's disagreement with captain Cesar Azpilicueta over who would take their second penalty of the afternoon.

"At half-time, we’d had a lot of control but our final third play was not as bright as I wanted, which is maybe to be expected at the minute with the period we’re in,’ Lampard said.

"There was not as much movement or penetration but in the second half that changed and we got a very good win.

"We couldn’t allow the Crystal Palace back four to go home and say “it wasn’t that hard dealing with that front four”. That’s what the message was at half-time - just change it up, more speed, more movement, change our game up, and they did it straight away."

Lampard on Chilwell's Home Debut

"I thought Ben Chilwell was fantastic in his contribution in all senses. He gets his goal, he gets an assist and he was always ready to join in. He’s Premier League ready, we know that having played in this league as well as he has for Leicester and he looked like he’d played for us for a long time.

‘I admired him before because of his ability to be so high up the pitch when you want him, not that he’s being reckless by being there. He just arrives, he’s got the capacity to get up and back, great quality on the ball, and he’s a great lad."

"Tammy with his youthful exuberance and performance that he’d had in the game, which I thought was very good, he made a mistake and wanted to take the penalty.

‘We have a designated penalty taker as you saw with the first penalty and it’s been dealt with in the dressing room. There are no problems."

"Callum’s performance, particularly in the second half when he got more aggressive and wanted to take on his full-back and go on the outside, was very good. He’s absolutely part of my plans here.

"We have Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech but we need options on the wings and what Callum showed today and when he came on against West Brom was exactly what he needs to show so I’m very pleased with him.
