Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is set to miss several weeks of action due to an injury sustained in training.

The former Brighton star was absent from Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford, with interim head coach Frank Lampard confirming the news after the game.

"Cucurella is injured. He injured himself in training two days ago. He will be out for a few weeks with a quad injury," Lampard said.

Chelsea suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions against Brentford, marking the first time the club has experienced such a run in 30 years.

All five of these defeats have occurred under the guidance of Lampard, who returned for his second spell at the club earlier this month.

Chelsea fans were frustrated with the team's performance with some supporters voicing their displeasure by booing at full-time.

"I've no problem with that, completely understand it," said Lampard on the Chelsea fans making their feelings known after the full-time whistle.

"I know these fans very well and they stick by their team. They feel down because they are used to success and they want that success all the time as we all do. I absolutely understand it, we as players and staff have to take it on the chin because they want results.

"I can say to the fans now that the players are showing application. Brentford had one shot on target and scored two goals, that kind of says it all," he added.

"This is not a sob story but everything is going against us.

"We would love a magic wand, a magic moment. It doesn't come in football because the Premier League moves so fast, it's competitive."
