Franck Kessie has reached an agreement to join Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the season, 90min can confirm, with his representatives ending talks with rival suitors.

Barcelona have been looking at the AC Milan midfielder for months as they prepare to bolster their squad with a number of free transfers. Chelsea's Andreas Christensen and Ajax's Noussair Mazraoui are also high on their wish list.

It is Kessie with whom talks have progressed furthest and sources have confirmed to 90min that his agent has made it clear to the Ivorian's suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur, that a deal to join Barcelona is done.

Spurs had long been keen on Kessie and made an approach to the 25-year-old after getting the approval of manager Antonio Conte, but it is Barcelona who have won the race for his signature.

The deal is expected to be confirmed later this month, with Barcelona hopeful of finalising a deal for centre-back Christensen as well.

Talks with Mazraoui remain ongoing, although Bayern Munich have contacted the Ajax right-back as well.

Even if they can land Mazraoui, Barcelona hope to push ahead with a move for Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta, whose future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air because of the imminent change of ownership.

The Spain international is coming to the end of his contract, and although Chelsea do have the option to extend that by a further year, the stance before the sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich was that Chelsea would not trigger that clause if Azpilicueta did not want to stay - as a sign of respect for their long-serving captain.

However, whether the new ownership would take a similar standpoint is unclear.
