France have recalled Manchester United forward Antony Martial for the September international break, but Olivier Giroud misses out when fully fit for the first time since his debut in 2011.

Over the course of the last 10 years, Giroud has only ever not been selected by France when he has been injured, meaning he has otherwise been named in every squad for a decade. This time, however, coach Didier Deschamps has seen fit to overlook the AC Milan striker.

Deschamps has called up Martial in his place, perhaps surprisingly given his lack of form at club level. Uncapped 22-year-old forward Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen has also been selected.

Veteran striker Karim Benzema keeps his place after a recall for Euro 2020 during the season, while there are also places in midfield for uncapped duo Jordan Veretout and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Uncapped defender Theo Hernandez replaces older brother Lucas in the squad.

Aside from Giroud and Hernandez missing out from the squad that went to Euro 2020, there are also no places this time for Ousmane Dembele, who is injured, Wissam Ben Yedder, Marcus Thuram, Adrien Rabiot, Moussa Sissoko, Clement Lenglet or Benjamin Pavard.

France face a triple header of World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ukraine and Finland in the next two weeks, having previously made a strong start to the campaign.
