France got their Euro 2020 campaign off to the perfect start, with a Mats Hummels own goal giving them a deserved 1-0 win over Germany in Munich.

The game had a frenetic opening, with Les Bleus edging the opening exchanges. In the 20th minute France were rewarded for their strong start when Lucas Hernandez's cross was diverted into his own net by Mats Hummels.

After the break Germany improved with Serge Gnabry spurning a good chance after Adrien Rabiot struck the post with a deflected effort.

Kylian Mbappe then thought he had made it 2-0, only to have his fine finish ruled out for offside. Six minutes from time France would have another strike disallowed but they managed to hold on for the three points.

Here are your player ratings from an entertaining night in Munich...

Huge Lloris (GK) - 7/10 - Safe and dependable. Claimed some crosses and made one save in the second half.

Benjamin Pavard (RB) - 7/10 - Did very well defensively, completing five tackles. Also gave his side vital width with his overlapping runs.

Raphael Varane (CB) - 7/10 - Drove out from defence on occasion. Distributed effectively, rarely surrendering possession. Was assertive in his defending as well.

Pascal Kimpembe (CB) - 7/10 - One or two loose moments but was largely fine. Made a few important clearances.

Lucas Hernandez (LB) - 8/10 - Made one vital intervention after creating the goal with his dangerous cross. Answered some questions about his lack of attacking threat.

2. Midfielders

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 8/10 - Typically superb. Close to spotless in possession and buzzed around everywhere to disrupt the opposition.

Paul Pogba (CM) - 8/10 -
A seriously impressive display. His incredible pass led to the first goal and he caught the eye with some clever flicks and feints. Impossible to dispossess at times.

Adrien Rabiot (CM) - 7/10 -
Got through a lot of defensive work but also broke forward regularly. Hit the post midway through the second half after a lung-busting run, but should have squared it.

3. Forwards

Antoine Griezmann (RW) - 7/10 - A hard-working display. He was also involved in a lot of France's best moves.

Karim Benzema (ST) - 6/10 -
His link-up play was oddly sloppy and struggled to make an impact for the most part. Worked hard, though.

Kylian Mbappe (LW) - 8/10 -
Showed his otherworldly ability on a few occasions, making several Germany defenders look very silly indeed. Denied a superb goal and an assist by a pair of marginal offside calls.

Ousmane Dembele - N/A

GERMANY PLAYER RATINGS

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 7/10 - Hummels gave him no chance for the goal. He made one save after that and distributed well.

Matthias Ginter (CB) - 6/10 -
Shook off a second-half knock to play the whole game. His long passing was mostly accurate and he made several important tackles.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 5/10 -
Bad. Scored the own goal and looked lethargic early on. Redeemed himself somewhat with a spectacular last-ditch tackle on Mbappe near the end.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 6/10 -
Did not do too badly but might have bitten Paul Pogba in the first half. You can't be doing that, Toni.

6. Wing-backs & midfielders

Robin Gosens

Joshua Kimmich (RWB) - 7/10 - Set-piece delivery was good all night and he barely put a foot wrong. A shame he could not play in midfield where he is best suited.

Toni Kroos (CM) - 7/10 -
A bustling, all-round midfield display. He finished with a game-high seven tackles and broke the lines fairly often with his passing.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - 6/10 -
Made a couple of bad decision in the final third but helped his team keep possession with metronomic passing. Competed as best he could against France's excellent midfield three.

Robin Gosens (LWB) - 7/10 -
Constantly motored up and down the left wing. HIs delivery was excellent and he should have ended the game with at least one assist.

7. Forwards

Lucas Hernandez, Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz (RW) - 5/10 - Ineffectual. Worked hard off the ball but struggled to find space despite moving across the frontline regularly.

Thomas Muller (ST) - 5/10 - Missed a great chance in the first half. Another player recalled to the squad who failed to impress.

Serge Gnabry (LW) - 5/10 - Remarkably quiet and missed one good opportunity to score. With the options behind him he is unlikely to start the next game.

8. Substitutes

Leroy Sane, Adrien Rabiot

Leroy Sane - 5/10 - Tried to make something happen in a left forward berth but was not successful.

Timo Werner - 6/10 - Busy after coming on.

Emre Can - N/A

Jamal Musiala - N/A
