Gameweek 2 is upon us in Fantasy Premier League and there are more than a few players to watch out for after the opening weekend of the Premier League.

Manchester City got their title defence off to a flyer with victory at West Ham, while Liverpool were held by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Ahead of what's certain to be another fixture list packed with goals and action, here are the players to watch out for in Gameweek 2.

Darwin Nunez (£9.0m) vs Crystal Palace (H)

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is among the favourites to score for Liverpool against Crystal Palace on Monday, ranking third in the anytime goalscorer odds. The Reds are among the heavy favourites to win their fixture in Gameweek 2 and it's been a promising start to the campaign for Nunez, with goals in the Community Shield and in the 2-2 draw with Fulham.

A lack of starts may cause some concern for fantasy managers, but his 39-minute substitute performance against Fulham was phenomenal. He grabbed a goal and an assist from three big chances: nobody in the Premier League bettered his three shots on target in Gameweek 1, despite only appearing from the bench.

Aleksandar Mitrovic vs Wolves (A)

The surprise package of Gameweek 1 was Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring a brace against Liverpool. He returned to the Premier League having scored 43 goals in the Championship last season, but not many expected him to adjust so quickly and in such a tough opening fixture. In fact, 56.9% of his owners benched him for his tricky opening fixture.

After that excellent performance in Gameweek 1, he's among the favourites in the anytime goalscorer odds for Gameweek 2, where he travels to Wolves. The Wanderers, however, are the favoured side for the fixture.

Danny Welbeck vs Newcastle (H)

If anyone is after a differential fantasy option in Gameweek 2, then Danny Welbeck should be under consideration. He put in an impressive performance against Manchester United, where he had four shots in the box and also created three chances, one being an assist for Pascal Groß in their resounding 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

The ongoing fixture schedule is promising for the Seagulls: they don’t face another big six side until Liverpool in Gameweek 9.

Welbeck is currently the second likeliest goalscorer with the bookies against Newcastle at the Amex Stadium this weekend and he sits in just 1% of fantasy squads, having been a form player at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. Brighton are the favourites to win this fixture.
