FIFA has launched a brand new FIFA PlayOn podcast hosted by Liam Payne and sports broadcaster Jaydee Dyer, with every episode featuring a famous footballer discussing key moments throughout their career and the songs that have been the soundtrack to their life.
The eight-episode podcast is launched in collaboration with Universal Music Group as part of a new strategy – ‘FIFA Sound’ – to create innovative and more meaningful connections between football fans, music enthusiasts, players, artists, and the game and songs they all love.
Available now, the first episode features Sevilla midfielder and former Croatia international Ivan Rakitic, as well as Colombian music group Morat. Both discuss how football and music have helped them through the coronavirus pandemic, while Rakitic details what it is like playing with ex-Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, as well as what the late Diego Maradona meant to him.
Episode two, available from Wednesday 20 January, will feature USWNT icon and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner Carli Lloyd and American singer-songwriter Rachel Platten.
Barcelona and Nigeria forward Asisat Oshoala will be a guest on episode three alongside Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage. Future guests will also include 2017 Puskas Award nominee Deyna Castellanos, Venezuelan-born musician Lele Pons and British rapper Wretch 32.
New episodes will be released every Wednesday and player curated playlists will also be posted on Spotify and Apple Music for listeners to enjoy.
“I can’t wait for everyone to hear what we’ve been working on with FIFA,” Liam Payne said.
“The PlayOn Podcast has been such a journey. It’s been awesome having these incredible players and special guests come together and exchange life experiences from both on and off the pitch, all through the lens of music.”
PlayOn is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music and other podcast players – click here to download.
