The world football governing body, FIFA on Wednesday announced that the draw for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will be held on June 24, while also confirming on the three Indian cities that will host the tournament.

The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will be held in India with Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai are the cities chosen to host the games. Other than India, six countries have been confirmed for the tournament - Brazil, Chile, China PR, Colombia, Japan and New Zealand. Meanwhile, 16 teams are set to compete in the tournament, meaning that several spots are still up for grabs.

The tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with FIFA, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Local Organising Committee (LOC) confirming on the three host cities after undertaking a comprehensive review and consultation process.

Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium, Goa’s Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium were announced as the three venues as the organising authorities came to the conclusion that these three cities would be the best to ensure the safety of players involved and the other participants in the tournament.

"The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 host states – Maharashtra, Goa and Odisha – share our excitement and enthusiasm about leaving behind a lasting legacy while shining a celebratory light on India’s culture, diversity and love for the beautiful game," AIFF president, Praful Pate said as per the official statement.

"Following FIFA’s recent successful visit to India, remaining cognisant of the evolving COVID-19 situation, the new footprint for the tournament was decided upon. While Goa and Navi Mumbai have already displayed considerable expertise in hosting international tournaments, Bhubaneswar, an upcoming sporting powerhouse, perfectly aligns with the values of growth and development of this youth tournament," he added.

The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place between 11-30 October later this year.
