EA Sports have announced that Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe will star on the cover of FIFA 22.
Despite still being just 22 years of age, the Frenchman has established himself as one of the best players in the world and is already being touted as one of the most likely stars to succeed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as a dominating force of the beautiful game.
Mbappe has now been confirmed as FIFA's cover star for the second season in a row, with EA Sports releasing a short statement to confirm the news before recognising the youngster's achievement.
"Today, EA SPORTS has officially revealed Paris Saint-Germain striker and global football icon, Kylian MbappE, as the FIFA 22 cover athlete," the statement read.
"As one of the game’s brightest young stars, Mbappe represents the next generation of iconic footballers and perfectly embodies the global FIFA community through his dedication to making a positive impact in the growth of modern football.
"Mbappe graces the cover for the second year in a row, making him one of few to earn back-to-back cover star status, alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."
Cover star Mbappe himself provided a brief statement, expressing his joy at being named on the cover of such a famous game for the second year running.
“Being on back-to-back FIFA covers is amazing,” he said. “I have a very special relationship with the game and look forward to enjoying FIFA 22 alongside all of you."
There isn't much that goes on in football these days that fans don't intensely read into, and speculation has already surfaced on social media that Mbappe being on the cover of FIFA 22 in a PSG shirt means he'll definitely be staying in Paris beyond this summer.
Well, we can shoot that theory down straight away. Gareth Bale was named as FIFA 14's cover star back in 2013 alongside Messi, with the Welshman pictured in his Tottenham kit.
However, later that summer he secured a mega-money move to Real Madrid, so EA Sports just changed the cover so he was wearing a Real kit.
