FIFA 20: Assessing the Ligue 1 Team of the Season Cards
By Robbie Walls
It's that time of year again; when FIFA releases its exciting team of the season cards on Ultimate Team.
And this week, it's the turn of Ligue 1, as EA have released 20 upgraded players, with the majority unsurprisingly being chosen from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, while another two players are available through objectives.
Here's a look then at every player featured in the Ligue 1 team of the season, excluding players available through Squad Building Challengers, with a 90min rating for whether they are worth taking a punt on...
Steve Mandanda (GK)
The Marseille stopper may be a relatively cheap addition for either a Ligue 1 or French side, but speed is definitely not on his side.
However, at just 55,000 coins he would no doubt be a risk-free purchase...well, we hope.
Price: 55,000
90min rating: 6/10
Kenny Lala (RB)
The Strasbourg defender has had a splendid season and it's been duly represented in his outrageously good upgrade.
With only one rating below 90 - and even that's high at 77 shooting - the right-back is a must have.
Price: 395,000
90min rating: 8/10
Thiago Silva (CB):
Yawn, Thiago Silva has another upgraded card.
While his overall 95 rating may seem impressive, his individual stats are less so, with it perhaps the year to finally give the Brazilian a miss.
Price: 108,000
90min rating 5/10
Marquinhos (CB)
And alongside him is his teammate Marquinhos, who is perhaps a much better option for your backline.
Just never take a shot on goal with him, it's not exactly his forté.
Price: 275,000
90min rating: 8/10
Hassane Kamara (LB)
The Stade de Reims left-back is one of the lower-rated inclusions in this year's team of the season, yet his 95 pace is certainly not to be sniffed at.
As we know - like in any FIFA edition - pace is pretty crucial.
Price: 85,000
90min rating: 7/10
Marco Verratti (CM)
Perhaps a somewhat surprising inclusion considering he's not had the best season of his life, the diminutive Italian still has a stunning 95-rated card.
His 96 passing and 97 dribbling is a mouthwatering prospect indeed.
Price: 92,000
90min rating: 7/10
Houssem Aouar (CM)
The Lyon midfielder makes Verratti's stats look rather normal, and is a must have in central midfield - well, that is if you can afford him.
He's quick, he can shoot, he can dribble and he can pass and is essentially the perfect midfielder.
Price: 405,000
90min rating: 9/10
Angel Di Maria (RW)
If Neymar seems a bit too pricey, then the former Manchester United man represents a much cheaper alternative if you're looking for a team of the season winger.
The Argentine has an equally as impressive card, and will likely be a weapon cutting in from the right flank.
Price: 425,000
90min rating: 8/10
Neymar (LW)
Another PSG inclusion, as FIFA's favourite man Neymar has been awarded a ridiculously good upgrade.
A scarily good combination of 98 pace and 98 dribbling means the Brazilian is pretty much impossible to stop down the left flank.
Price: 7.2m
90min rating: 8/10
Wissam Ben Yedder (ST)
Now this is the card that's gonna get pulses racing.
The Monaco forward has enjoyed a stellar season in front of goal and has duly been awarded with a mindbogglingly good upgrade.
Make sure he's in your side and not your opponents!
Price: 7.12m
90min rating: 10/10
Kylian Mbappé (ST)
Any Kylian Mbappé card is bound to excite, and this one is no different.
Coming in at half the cost of his fellow striker Ben Yedder, the Frenchman is still blisteringly quick and should be a priority purchase...if you have 3m coins lying around.
Price: 3.89m
90min rating: 8/10
Bench
Predrag Rajković (23,250): As goalkeepers go he's very very slow, but also very very cheap.
Yunis Abdelhamid (26,000): The centre-back also only has 70 pace, but provides a physical presence at the back.
Benjamin André (35,500): The Lille midfielder is a relative all-rounder and definitely worth his cheap price.
Renato Sanches (669,000): The former Bayern starlet has re-emerged this season and been duly rewarded with an immense card.
Téji Savanier (137,000): The lesser-known Montpellier man has another brilliant midfield card and is well worth a punt.
Youcef Atal (1.32m): The Nice winger has a breathtakingly good upgrade and provides a 5* weak foot to play on either wing.
Memphis Depay (650,000): As long as he doesn't have to defend, this is an insanely strong card and a lot cheaper than the other star names in attack.
Victor Osimhen (305,000): He's not only blindingly quick but he also knows where the goal is, and that has been reflected accurately with this stellar card.
Islam Slimani (32,000): An absolute bargain for a 90-rated player who won't be shrugged off the ball too easily.
PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye and AS Monaco's central midfielder Aleksandr Golovin are available through objectives.
Prices are accurate at the time of writing.
