Federico Chiesa is back in training with Juventus having been sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury since the start of the year.

The Italy international had enjoyed an excellent Euro 2020 with his country but only managed 14 Serie A appearances during the 2021/22 season when his campaign was cut short in January against Roma.

However, Juve confirmed on Monday that Chiesa had started a "partial and gradual return to the group" in what is a massive boost for the underperforming Italian giants.

The Bianconeri have been disappointingly blunt in front of goal under Massimiliano Allegri so far this term, being held to draws in four of their eight league games. Dusan Vlahovic has been their biggest goal threat, scoring five times in Serie A, but the likes of Angel Di Maria, Filip Kostic and Moise Kean have all struggled to hit the back of the net regularly.

Chiesa has watched both Juve and Italy's struggles from the sidelines since he was injured, seeing his nation fail to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar next month.

He will likely return to action after the global showpiece event, with Juve hoping to still be in the Champions League by that point.

Allegri's side have lost their first two games in Group H and have some serious catching up to do if they are to usurp either Paris Saint-Germain or Benfica - who each have six points - and qualify for the knockout stages.
