FC Dallas has signed defender Joshué Quiñónez on loan from Ecuadorian side Barcelona SC Guayaquil, with a purchase option through December 2022.

Quiñónez will occupy an international spot on the roster, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

To complete the deal, the Western Conference side sent $100,000 of 2022 General Allocation Money to the Portland Timbers, who own the player's discovery rights. If Dallas chooses to purchase the player following the loan at an amount lower than $2 million, they will send an additional $150,000 in GAM to Portland.

The 20-year-old kicked off his professional career at Barcelona SC’s academy before ascending to the first team to make 11 appearances over two seasons. Internationally, he debuted for Ecuador’s National Team in an international friendly vs. Mexico on October 28, 2021.

FC Dallas has seen a busy offseason, bringing in several names after the departure of star player Ricardo Pepi at the end of 2021. The Western Conference has since signed D.C United and USMNT figure Paul Arriola, Alan Velasco, Nanu, and Marco Farfan.

The team also made six selections during the MLS SuperDraft.

After concluding the 2021 campaign in 11th place on the Western Conference table and missing out on playoffs, newest head coach Nico Estevez vowed to revamp the squad to compete with the league’s best.
